Koru (Fern Frond)
The koru is the growth pattern of the pitau, the young shoot of a plant such as the fern or gourd.

The original concept designs for the collection of Aotearoa icons comes from a design project that James was commissioned to undertake in collaboration with Ngati Whatua and Transit New Zealand in 2004 as part of the Saggitti junction motorway system redevelopment in Aucland. This is the first public showing of this collection of designs.
